Dr Iraj Abedian (Chairman)

Dr Iraj Abedian is an economist by training and has extensive business and research experience in South Africa. Since 1994, Iraj has been involved in formulating macroeconomic policy in South Africa and is a respected adviser to a number of public and private sector organisations.
From 2000 to 2004, Dr Abedian served as Chief Economist and EXCO member of the Standard Bank Group of South Africa Limited and in 2005 he and Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu founded Pan-African Capital Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a private investment company.
He was a member of the Panel of Economic Advisors of President Mbeki and President Motlante over the period March 2006 to April 2009.
Since 2001, Dr Abedian has been a member of the board of directors of the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA). He is a director of Transnet Limited and Munich Re and serves on the Advisory Board of the Auditor-General of South Africa. Dr Abedian is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Pan-African Capital Holdings and its subsidiary companies.
Philip G. Doyle

Mr Philip Doyle is the Managing Director of Econergy International
Corporation (EIC). EIC’s activities include: sourcing of clean energy investment opportunities, strategic acquisitions, carbon purchasing, and developing key
relationships with strategic sector and technical partners.
Mr Doyle has advised and supported in the development of renewable energy projects for public and private sector investors and Econergy. Developed the financial structure for over 15 projects and provided critical assessments for numerous others.
Mr Doyle has undertaken commercial/financial investment sourcing and reviews for over 20 corporate (early/technology, expansion stage, and fund) investment opportunities.
Mr Doyle has extensive knowledge and experience in working with the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and its Certified Emission Reduction certificates (CERs) as well as with Voluntary Emissions Reductions (VERs).
Mr Doyle has extensive specific project experience including: biofuels (ethanol & biodiesel), natural gas, hydroelectric, wind, biomass, and energy conservation projects.
Professor Anton Eberhard

Prof. Eberhard’s fie lds of specialisation includes:
economics, management, restructuring and regulation of infrastructure industries - particularly the electricity, gas and water sectors – in support of sustainable development. In addition, energy (and R&D) policy, renewable energy and energy-efficiency financing and business models.
Prof. Eberhard is an energy expert and advisor to Eskom, South Africa’s national energy utility. He also served as Director of the Energy and Development Research Centre from 1989-1999 and has or is currently serving on the following Boards:

Saliem Fakir
Stellenbosch, South Africa
Saliem Fakir is the Head of the Living Planet Unit at the World Wildlife Fund South Africa. The Unit’s work is focused on identifying ways to manage a transition to a low-carbon economy.
Saliem Fakir was previously (2007-2008) a senior lecturer at the Department of Public Administration and Planning and associate Director for the Center for Renewable and Sustainable Energy at the University of Stellenbosch where he taught a course on renewable energy policy and financing of renewable energy projects.
Saliem Fakir previously worked for Lereko Energy (Pty) Ltd (2006) an investment company focusing on project development and financial arrangements for renewable energy, biofuels, waste and water sectors. He also served as Director of the World Conservation Union South Africa (IUCN-SA) office for 8 years (1998-2005).
Saliem served on a number of Boards. Between 2002-2005 he served as a chair of the Board of the National Botanical Institute. He also served on the board of the Fair Trade in Tourism Initiative, and was a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Global Reporting Initiative, based in Amsterdam. He currently serves of the advisory board of Inspired Evolution One – a private fund involved in clean technology.
Saliem’s qualifications are: B.Sc Honours molecular biology (WITS), Masters’ in Environmental Science, Wye College London, and did a senior executive management course at Harvard University in 2000.
Nicholas Parker

Nicholas Parker is Chairman and Managing Partner of the Cleantech Group, LLC which he co-founded. He introduced the "cleantech" concept to the investment and business community in 2002. Previously Nicholas accumulated over 15 years experience starting and investing venture funds worldwide through limited partnerships, family offices, corporate funds and endowments. During this time, he pioneered the first "sustainability" driven private equity funds and participated in one of the first solar IPOs. In the 1990s, he also founded, built and sold an environmental finance firm. He has served as an advisor to multilateral agencies and major corporations.
Nicholas earned a BA Hons. in Technology Studies (Carleton University, Ottawa) and an MBA (City University, London), and has authored or edited more than ten publications related to cleantech, finance and international business, starting with Investing in Emerging Economies in 1993. He serves as Chairman of
E+Co, a public purpose investment company for clean energy enterprises in developing countries, and is on several boards, including: Government of Singapore Cleantech Advisory Board, Canadian Centre of Excellence for Commercialization of Research and the X PRIZE Energy & Environment Council.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). Nicholas has lived and worked in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America and currently resides with his two children in Toronto.
